Shey Phoksundo is one of the most scenic treks in Nepal. I have wanted to trek to Lower Dolpo (up to Shey Phoksundo lake) since a long time but I have held back because of a lack of a fellow traveller going the same way. I am familiar with the route though.
You need 2 permits: one for trekking, and one for national parks.
There are 2 ways to reach the park: via plane (on a flight, and trek), and via land route. Almost the same number of days either ways, from Kathmandu and back.

it is always good to take a guide if you are travelling in a new place. You need permit as well, for routes you can have choices ( flight, four wheeler- private or public, motorbike or hike. Depends upon your time. You have to walk minimum 2 days if you reach upto Dunai from vehicles.
