Trail shoes versus boots for hiking the EBC trek, which one is better?
Hello all,
I hope this message finds you well and you’re having a wonderful day!
Quick question for y’all – I have hiked the Annapurna Circuit a few years back in trail
shoes, I was curious to know your thoughts on trail shoes versus boots for hiking the EBC trek in early March?
The trail shoes I currently hike in are Hoka Soeedgoat 5’s.
Also…do you recommend Gators?
Thanks everyone for your wisdom

I too prefer trail runners, but will go with warmer boots if I’ll regularly be in snow.
I’ve done that trek in a March and if the upcoming weather is clear and it hasn’t snowed recently I would feel fine in trail runners and no need for gators.
Have a great trip and hope you’ll be using a guide as it is so inexpensive compared to the cultural benefits and will make a major impact for the guide and their family. They’re really hurting from the past two years.
For Strength & stability boots are great, that’s what I wore, though don’t rule out Trail Shoes with Ankle Gaiters, think either are Fine
Gators are not required. Boots- yes…! the ground is a mix of uneven stones, large boulders, earth, roots, soft sand… I also had trail shoes but I wore my boots and was so glad I did.
